ASTRO is a multiple award Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract geared towards the needs of the Department of Defense and the U.S. military with a scope focused on ISR and unmanned systems.
The multiple pools that comprise the ASTRO contract:
- Span many areas of expertise and mission spaces;
- Span multiple professional service disciplines;
- Allow flexibility for all contract types, including hybrids and cost-reimbursement, at the task order level; and
- Allow ancillary support components, commonly referred to as Other Direct Costs (ODC), at the task order level.
- Focus on large, best-value tradeoff acquisitions (typically >$100M)
- Focus on operations and maintenance of robotics and unmanned systems, as well as ISR
- Encompass the majority of the armed services' technical requirements

Pool 1:Data Operations: Performance of Data Operations including all data collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination activities associated with manned, unmanned, and optionally manned platforms and robotics supporting mission performance. This includes traditional labor services as well as "as a service" support.
Pool 6:Maritime: Maintenance, repair, and overhaul of manned, optionally manned, and unmanned maritime platforms.
Pool 2:Mission Operations: Mission Operations includes performance of operational services not included in Data Operations associated with manned, unmanned, and optionally manned platforms and robotics supporting mission performance. This includes traditional labor services as well as "as a service" support.
Pool 7:Development/Systems Integration: Systems integration, improvement, and/or engineering associated with manned, unmanned, and optionally manned platforms.
Pool 3:Aviation: Maintenance, repair, and overhaul of manned, optionally manned, and unmanned aircraft.
Pool 8:Research: All R&D associated with manned, unmanned, optionally manned, and counter Unmanned Systems (UxS) platforms
Pool 4:Ground: Maintenance, repair, and overhaul of manned, optionally manned, and unmanned ground platforms and industrial machinery.
Pool 9:Support: All support services (except training) required for successful execution of a product, program, project, or process regarding platforms and robotics for land, air, sea, or space; the planning necessary to support operational missions; and the analysis of the results of an operational mission.
Pool 5:Space: Maintenance, repair, and overhaul of manned, optionally manned, and unmanned space platforms.
Pool 10:Training: All training (the providing of instruction) services required for successful execution of a product, program, project, or process regarding platforms and/or robotics for land, air, sea, or space.
