Company Honored by CONNECT and C4ISR Journal in Recent Awards Ceremonies

SAN DIEGO – 18 December 2008 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA‑ASI), a leading manufacturer of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and tactical reconnaissance radars, today announced the receipt of recent awards from both the business community and international defense industry for its Sky Warrior® Alpha UAS, Sky Warrior UAS, and Lynx® II Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)/Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) sensor system.

In early December, GA-ASI received the 2008 Most Innovative New Product (MIP) Award from CONNECT, San Diego’s technology and life sciences accelerator. Since 1988, CONNECT’s annual MIP Awards have recognized successful technologies within the San Diego business community. GA-ASI tied for first place in the Aerospace and Security Technologies category for its Sky Warrior Block 0 UAS. Featuring a heavy-fuel engine for increased supportability in the field, Sky Warrior Block 0 is a proven, multi-mission aircraft supporting U.S. Army operations overseas with over 30 hours of airborne endurance; persistent intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR); and tactical strike capabilities.

In mid-October, GA-ASI was twice recognized as a finalist in C4ISR Journal’s “Big 25” Awards, a defense industry awards program that honors C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) programs, technologies, and organizations that are making a difference on the battlefield or in the defense of civilians against terrorists and insurgents.

The company’s Sky Warrior Alpha UAS, an extended range multi-mission ISR and strike aircraft that offers U.S. troops long-endurance, medium-altitude tactical reconnaissance support, was honored in the Platforms category for providing the U.S. Army with interim, persistent battlefield intelligence prior to the delivery of the first Sky Warrior Block 1 aircraft in 2009. In addition, GA-ASI’s Lynx II SAR/GMTI radar, a reduced weight/volume version of the Lynx I system, was recognized in the Sensors category for providing the Iraqi Air Force, U.S. Army, and others with the all-weather, wide-area precision search capability to detect time-sensitive targets from both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms.
